We Have a New Baby

Alpaca, that is!!

Meet our new Cria (baby alpaca)!  Her name is Cassiopeia, Cassi for short.  She dropped into our world Friday July 20th weighing 13 pounds, 8 ounces (on the small side for alpacas).

She’s beautiful!  Long legged, with curly dark brown fiber and a white spot on her forehead that looks like a little star.  Thus her name, Cassiopeia, which is a common constellation and was also a Greek Goddess.

Cassiopeia was the vain and boastful wife of King Cepheus of Ethiopia, who lies next to her in the sky. They are the only husband-and-wife couple among the constellations. Classical authors spell her name Cassiepeia, but Cassiopeia is the form used by astronomers.  www.ianridpath.com/startales/cassiopeia.htm

Shortly after coming into our world, Cassi was up testing out her wobbly legs and with help from ever watchful Mom, Vita, learning to nurse.  Both of these skills must be mastered quickly by newborns to ensure they will get off to a good start.  Cassi is doing great!!

More about Cassi’s progress her Mom (Vita) and Dad (Torino) soon!
